The Lahman's database is extremely inaccurate in terms of player ratings. A ratings set as usually been heavily edited by its creater and will be more historically accurate. The downside of a roster set is that you have to start in whatever year the set is created for but of course you can continue forward into the future.
Download my 1993 roster set for an example of what I am talking about. Then import a 1993 Lahman season and notice the differences in player ratings.
