On the surface it looks like simming ahead would be a huge deal, but there are so many "hidden" factors and modifiers that simming ahead (a few seasons, for example, to see if a prospect is going to work out) isn't really definitive. I've seen the same prospect in the same type of league (for example, scouts turned off, minors not filled) with the same starting ratings turn out differently (a 5 * prospect in one league turned into a 3 gold * guy, in another a 4.5 gold * guy, and in two others a 3.5 * guy). To add to that, the 3.5 * guy performed markedly differently -- one was a 4 era guy, the other a 5 era guy that was very inconsistent.
