Two local radio stations in Detroit, WXYT-AM 1270 and WDFN-AM 1130, both reported yesterday that free-agent catcher Ivan Rodrqiguez and the Tigers had reached verbal agreement on a four-year, $40-million contract. However, Pudge's agent Scott Boras denied those reports. "We are still negotiating contract language, but there has been no 'verbal agreement,'" Boras said in a statement. "Mr. Rodriguez has completed and passed a physical [for the Tigers]. We will not have any more comment until Monday."

You heard the man. You can expect the agreement to be formalized and announced on Monday. The ongoing discussion likely has a lot to do with the unique out clauses that protect the Tigers from Pudge's chronic back problems.
