Exactly. With Pudge there, and assuming they win 70 games, Detroit becomes a lot more attractive to FA's down the road and you don't have to overpay to bring them in.
If 4 years is what it takes, then I'd do it too. I'd also ask if he'd be into changing positions to 2B or 3B in the next couple of seasons.
