1871 World Series Preview- Chicago White Stockings vs. New York Nationals
The 1871 regular season has drawn to a close. The time has come for the first ever World Series!
Chicago
The Stockings were led all season by their first-sacker, Lip Pike. Pike (.428, 9, 41) was helped on offense by Count Sensenderfer (.392, 2, 37) and Deacon White (.387, 0, 23). George Zettlein finished 20-10.
New York
Rynie Wolters proved to be the life-blood of the Gotham club this season. Wolters (19-11, 2.99) proved time and time again that this team would not be stopped. He didn't do it alone however, with Andy Leonard (.382, 1, 24) and Bob "Death to Flying Things" Ferguson (.357, 1, 31) contributing as the main offense threats.
Our Choice: We like the Stockings in three.
