The Tymes, VI, Issue II
The Base Ball Tymes, Volume I, Isuue II
Season Preview 1871
American League (Listed in predicted order of finish)
Boston Red Stockings
The Stockings from Beantown are lead by their pitcher, Mr. Albert Spalding. Mr. Spalding is only 20 years of age and looks to command a bright future. At the plate the Red Stockings have 2B Albert Reach and CF Fred Treacey. This is a club to be reckoned with.
Louisville Grays
The Grays may have one of the leagues top line-ups, but their success may hinge on 18 year old P Bill Stearns. Stearns is a young right hander from Washington. The Grays used their second round pick on him so we think this lad may be one to watch.
Philadelphia Quakers
This team will place fear in opposing pitchers. With players Ross Barnes and Fergy Malone on the line-up card, the Quakers will score runs, but like the Grays, pitching may be the key to a Quaker pennant.
Chicago White Stockings
The Windy City Stockings have a bright future with men like P Zettlein, 1B Pike, and C White. They could compete but a lack of offense may do them in.
