John C That was an interesting post and the idea of matching up the 61 Yankees vs. 11 Athletics in their own eras would be interesting.
What I'm attempting to do is have the teams all meet on more equal terms by including the League averages of every team represented. However your proposal of having the 61 Yanks playing in the Deadball era would be intersting to try and simulate. Or having the Athletics play on 1961 settings. Your idea puts each team to the extreme. Now keep in mind that one reason why the 61 Yanks were considered as one of the great teams were their power. 240 team homers with Mantle and Maris providing almost half! The one thing I'm not sure is how the game engine would handle this. For instance we can transport the Yanks to 1911 and play with the deadball settings. However Guys like Mantle and Maris would still have high Homerun ratings. So I'm not sure how the game engine would handle this. It definitely would be a fun test. The 11 Athletics had outstanding pitching. In this game as in real life I notice that the teams with good - great pitching usually do well. Even in my great teams re-play you can see that the teams with great pitching are dominating. The only big surprise is how well the 1998 Yankees are doing. While the 27 and 61 Yanks are struggling. However the season is only half way. Plus a few re-plays should be done to get an accurate picture. What is encouraging is that I'm seeing the deadball teams already hitting as many homers halfway through the season as they did in real life. So I figure most will hit double, which still isn't much. I think 1906 Chicago cubs hit a total of 16 homers. So in my re-play they may end up with around 32.
Which is as it should be, as the 61 Yanks will end up with less then 240 at the end of my re-play. SO I would say the game is pretty much simulating what I was hoping for. However to play as you suggested would also be interesting. Plus I would really be interested to see how the game would handle say a Mantle or Maris with a 12-17 HR rating with the deadball settings.
