Peter Jackson Vs. Peter Maher
Pre Fight Analysis
The first bout of the tournament to crown a heavyweight champion under the new Pyramid system is under way.
Devised to sort out the real mess the heavyweight division had become over the last twenty years and to ensure the very best contenders and fighters fought for the championchip without worrying about creed or colour.
It's fitting then that Peter Jackson is involved in the first bout. Seen by many as the uncrowned champion of recent times Jackson known as the black prince, now George Godfrey is injured and unavailable to compete is by far the biggest danger to those who would attempt to keep the heavyweight championchip in the hands of white America.
Matched with Irish champion Maher he is seen as a very heavy favourite in their bout. Seen as too skilled, to big, to powerful and too experianced for Maher the general opinion is he will dispose of Maher sometime in the latter half of their ten rounder.
Maher for his part although considered both brave and tough just does not have the necessary skills to cause an upset. Also his questionable chin and defensive skills will allow his opponent to cause some major damage.
