Players imported with the Lahman Database have a lot of stats that are just randomly assigned...arm, range, character traits.
Basestealing ratings are not accurate...it is based on percentage of steals (a player who steals 2 out of 2 is rated better than one who steals 40 out of 60).
Pitchers strikeout rating while batting is frequently wrong.
(They many times are rated "brilliant" because their strikeout total is "0" for a season. The database doesn't know the reason the pitcher did not strike out that season is because no stats were kept for that category in that year.)
THE STATS ARE FOR THE YEAR YOU IMPORT THE PLAYER...NOT HIS CAREER AVERAGE. Ankit's Career Average Database is better, but you also have to revise some ratings in it as well.
I had to revise a lot of the ratings in order to get accurate ratings.
This required a lot of research and time.
Import some players and then compare their ratings with their stats in the Baseball-Reference database (
www.baseball-reference.com). Import both pitchers and position players and look at the ratings. You will get some idea of how accurate the ratings are in the databases.
Do a search on "Lahman Database" and "Ankit Database".
This will give you some idea of the accuracy of each.
