Cowler named to fight for European Title!!
The Cumberland Giant, Tom Cowler 6-7-0 (3) has been selected to oppose Peter Maher for the European Heavyweight title in March. The European representative issued a press release stating "We feel at this time Mr. Cowler is the most worthy opponent for Peter Maher with both Bob Fitzsimmons and Peter Jackson being involved in the World Championship tournament. The bout will be held in England at yet to be disclosed location, but is sure to be a raucous affair that promises to attract rabid supporters for both Men, particularly the loyal Irish fans who have dubbed themselves Maher's Mob. Also being negotiated at press time is a second round World tournament bout with promoters being hopeful of a Bob Fitzsimmons/Peter Jackson matchup.
