not as much: see tournaments, which don't use the normalization
but no normalization would also lead to the game being broken more often in league. see, a couple years ago, when hitters were far better than pitchers and we had moonball in the end cycle, where every game was 10-7 and bullpens broke. or even this year, where expected hitting numbers are worse than you'd expect from the environment. normalization keeps things in control, even if it causes some other issues in the league environmnet
