GREENHORN MICELI COLLECTS FIVE HITS & FIVE RBI
SCHUYLKILL LF POWERS TEAM TO VICTORY IN 4TH CAREER GAME; WEST CHAMPS NOW 4-0

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. (May 12, 1882) - 2x defending West Philadelphia champs Schuylkill opened the P.C.L. season with a surprising sweep at 1882 West favorites Overbrook. On Friday, they started off series #2 in grand fashion vs Germantown.

It was the visitors who went ahead early, as Germantown scored twice in T1 via Single & Sacrifice Fly to take an immediate 2-0 lead. However, Schuylkill took control with a four-run rally in B2 powered by run-scoring Singles from 1B Claude O’Shea & LF Frank Miceli. After the teams traded lone Runs over the 3rd & 4th, Schuylkill responded to a Germantown score in T5 with a six-run rally, the big hit a two-run Double by 2B William Williams, that gave the hosts an 11-4 and put the game permanently in their favor. A final four-run rally in B8 featuring a two-run Double by Miceli gave Schuylkill an eleven-run win and a perfect 4-0 start.

Victorious Schuylkill received fine performances from the first two batsmen in their lineup…

…but the man of the hour at River Bend Park was the batsmen right behind them: Greenhorn LF Frank Miceli.

Miceli, in the first week of his league career after spending a year in the Schuylkill reserves, entered Friday’s game batting 7/14 through his first three career games, and by the end of it was 12/20 (.600) with five Doubles and ten Runs Batted In through four. As far as introductions go, Miceli’s couldn’t conceivably be going any better.

Schuylkill will attempt to bring their perfect start to 5-0 on Saturday, with First Pitch scheduled for 12:30 P.M.
