FARRIS HAS BIG DAY IN SHUTOUT OF THE SAINTS
INDIANAPOLIS HURLER SILENCES ST. LOUIS BATS, AIDS TEAM’S ATTACK IN DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN

ST. LOUIS, MO. (May 9, 1882) - The St. Louis Saints are hosting the Indianapolis Warriors to open the first full week of play during the inaugural season of the M.W.B.A., and Indianapolis opened the series brilliantly with a double-digit victory.

Tuesday’s game at VanDeVenter Avenue was decided in the fourth inning. The Warriors stepped up to bat with a 1-0 lead and hit Saints #1 William Flynn with a seven-run rally that saw the first run score on a Double by C Abe Pieretti and continue with consecutive run-scoring Errors, a two-run Single by LF Willis Arceneaux, and a two-run Triple by CF James Bailey.

Ahead 8-0, Indianapolis #1 Lew Farris kept up his excellent hurling, keeping the hosts off the board and eventually earning a Shutout Win after the visitors put three more Runs on the board over the late innings.
IND P Lew Farris: CG SHO (1-1, 1.59), 9 HA, 2 BB, 6 K
However, that wasn’t the only good work Farris did, as he offered his Indianapolis teammates plenty of help with his bat.

The victory was the first in the league baseball history of the Indianapolis Warriors, and conversely the loss was the first in the league baseball history of the St. Louis Saints.

The series will continue tomorrow, with the game scheduled to begin at 1:30 local time.
