Zach Neto Named American League Batter of the Month After Dominant May
The accolades continue to pile up for Zach Neto. Major League Baseball announced Monday that the Angels' shortstop has been named the American League Batter of the Month. In 28 games during May, Neto batted .355 with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs, and 19 runs scored, emerging as one of the driving forces behind the Angels' offense.
His torrid month has vaulted him into the conversation as one of the American League's premier hitters. For the season, Neto is batting .323 (73-for-223) with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 33 runs scored, leading the Angels in nearly every major offensive category while providing abive average defense at shortstop. His combination of power, contact, and plate discipline has transformed him from an emerging star into one of the league's most complete players. "It's an incredible honor," Neto said. "Individual awards are special, but they're really a reflection of what we're doing as a team. The guys around me have been getting on base, putting together great at-bats, and making my job easier. We're building something here, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
With four months still remaining in the season, Neto has already positioned himself among the early favorites for the American League Silver Slugger Award and has begun to enter the fringes of the AL Most Valuable Player conversation.
