CBO Playoffs: Wildcard Round Results
NCA: #6 Starlight Killers vs #3 Cambridge Coursers
Game 1: Cambridge 3, Starlight 2
Wildcard Round Game 1 Victory for Watts and Cambridge
The Cambridge Coursers powered past the visiting Starlight Killers, 3-2, in the opener of the Wildcard Round at Cambridge Polymer Field. Cambridge starting pitcher Malik Watts threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Coursers now lead the series 1-0.
Watts was dominant for Cambridge. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, while racking up 12 strikeouts. He threw 99 pitches over 7 innings in the contest.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Watts.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge.
Game 2: Cambridge 6, Starlight 5
Cambridge Moves on to Association Semifinal Round
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the North Charles Association Wildcard Round. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Cambridge Coursers swept aside the Starlight Killers to advance to the Association Semifinal Round, winning the final game by a 6-5 score at Cambridge Polymer Field.
The series MVP was second baseman Arbor Creek, who hit .250 with a .333 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The Cambridge Coursers will play against the Malden Grognaks in the next round. Malden had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes.
NCA: #5 Nahant Celtics vs #4 Easy Town Assaultrons
Game 1: Easy Town 2, Nahant 1
Wildcard Round Game 1 Victory for Pitcher and Easy Town
The Wildcard Round got off to a quiet start, with the host Easy Town Assaultrons taking a low-scoring, 2-1 win over the Nahant Celtics. Easy Town right-hander Dave Pitcher was marvelous at Easy Town Field. The Assaultrons now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.
The Celtics had trouble solving Pitcher, who surrendered 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Nahant skipper Brian Andrewson.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Easy Town Field in Easy Town.
Game 2: Easy Town 5, Nahant 1
Easy Town Takes Wildcard Round
The Easy Town Assaultrons outclassed the Nahant Celtics in all facets of the game throughout the NCA Wildcard Round.
The end result was a Easy Town series sweep to advance to the Association Semifinal Round, capped off by a 5-1 win in the final game.
"We're a bit surprised it's over in a sweep, to be honest with you," said right fielder Slammin' Sammy Holloway, who hit .429 in the series.
Holloway's standout effort garnered him MVP honors. He also put up a .500 on-base percentage and had 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Easy Town Assaultrons will play against the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in the next round. Fort Hagen had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes.
SCA: #6 Roxbury Rad Sox vs #3 Atom Cats
Game 1: Roxbury 3, Atom 1
Road Win Lifts Roxbury to 1-0 Lead in WCR
The Roxbury Rad Sox powered past the hometown Atom Cats, 3-1, in the opener of the Wildcard Round at Coolest Field in Town. Roxbury starting pitcher Daley Hayes threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Rad Sox now lead the series 1-0.
Roxbury used a clutch at-bat from Honker Trinkl to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Rad Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Hayes called the win "a team effort."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coolest Field in Town in Atom Cats Garage.
Game 2: Roxbury 5, Atom 4
Roxbury Wins Wildcard Round
The Roxbury Rad Sox had all facets of their game going and have swept the Atom Cats in the Wildcard Round.
Roxbury now heads off to the Association Semifinal Round, after wrapping up the series with a 5-4 win.
Bix Bimbleman was named MVP, as he put up a .714 batting average, with a .778 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Roxbury Rad Sox will play against the FHE Yao Guai in the next round. FHE had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes.
SCA: #5 Egret Ninjas vs #4 Diamond City Swatters
Game 1: Diamond City 4, Egret 3
Lopez, Swatters Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
The Diamond City Swatters started the Wildcard Round in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Egret Ninjas in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Diamond City took the 4-3 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Macho Lopez. The right-hander threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Swatters a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-3 series.
The decisive blow was delivered by Early Duvet in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 27-year old left-handed pitcher Kunz Hoffmann to win the game for Diamond City. The home crowd went nuts.
"There's no quit in this team," said Swatters manager A-Juan Rodriguez.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.
Game 2: Diamond City 1, Egret 0
Diamond City Sweeps into the Association Semifinal Round
With a 1-0 win to wrap up the series at The Great Green Jewel, the Diamond City Swatters have eliminated the Egret Ninjas in the Wildcard Round and move on to the Association Semifinal Round.
Diamond City controlled the series from the outset and won it in a 2-0 sweep.
Early Duvet led the charge offensively for the victors, winning series MVP honors. He posted a .600 batting average, along with a .750 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 1 runs.
"We're not done yet," the MVP said. "There is still a lot to accomplish."
The Diamond City Swatters will play against the Southie Brews in the next round. Southie had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes.
