Making his 1st defense, Xander Zayas was able to convince IBO champ, Jermell Charlo, to come to Puerto Rico due to the intense fan interest.

In a fight that lacked big fireworks & one that Jermell seemed to control in most exchanges, Zayas was able to eke out a SD with Dave Moretti having the fight 143-142 & R. Maldonado 146-140 - both for Xander while Duane Ford had Charlo up 145-140.

Jermell won PL: 318 (27%) to 227 (26%).

JC drops to 22-2-1 (8 KO's) - his other loss years ago due to a cut before he won the IBO belt - having made 11 title defenses.
