My first thought is to cross check that with their babip(s). Sounds like your players are "hitting into luck". You don't mention how many games played, ie sample size.
I can't say I've looked closely at this in my game but your post got me thinking.
What I just did is add babip next to xBACON in my batter advanced stats view in my game. I don't know enough about the advanced stats but this does leave me with the impression that comparing the two indicates who may have been lucky and who may not. I get it's not a one to one comparison stat with babip not including home runs, while xBACON would. Meaning while I compare the two I mentally take into account how many HR the player has. Not scientific, but interesting to me.
