Game seven of the 1899 ALCS was a cloudy, 59 degree Sunday afternoon in the nation’s capital. Washington took the early lead on a two-RBI double in the second inning by Tom Niland. They never fell behind thanks to a complete game win from Bobby Wallace. The Nationals prevailed 5-2 over Detroit to repeat as American League champ, earning their third pennant (1894, 98, 99).



Wallace gave up four hits, two runs, and three walks over his victory with eight strikeouts. RF Jimmy Bannon was 2-4 with three RBI. 2B Ed Delahanty became the first player to repeat as ALCS MVP. In the series, Big Ed went 7-22 with a solo homer and two runs scored. It was the first time that the ALCS went all seven games with only home victories.
