Cards news: July 7 -- RHP Nick Becker sent to Mets as part of five-player deal (Part 1)
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired a pair of minor leaguers from the New York Mets -- center fielder Salvador Maldonaldo and second baseman Dan Bourland -- in exchange for right-handed starting pitcher Nick Becker, infielder Nazzan Zanetello and minor-league right-hander Sal Aquino.
Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2029, the 23-year-old Maldonaldo split 2035 between AA Binghamton and AAA Syracuse.
In 69 games, he hit .312 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs.
The 22-year-old Bourland, who the Mets took with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2031 draft, also split 2035 between AA and AAA.
In 111 games, he hit just .225 but hit 12 home runs and drove in 49.
Taken with the 21st pick of the 2033 draft by St. Louis, Becker earned a spot in the Cardinals rotation coming out of spring training in 2035.
But it didn't work out, as he went 1-6 with a 7.44 ERA in 10 starts.
In 21 games/20 starts with the Cardinals, Becker is 1-14 with a 6.35 ERA.
The Cardinals signed Zantello as a free agent before the 2035 season.
The 30-year-old split time between AAA Memphis and the majors.
With the Cardinals, he hit .208 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 49 games/32 starts.
