The Redlegs staved off elimination in extra innings the day before, but their backs are still against the wall with no room for error. Both teams return to their Game 1 starters. RHP
Jesús Chapa (1-2, 25.2 IP, 1.75 ERA) looks to finish the job for Sherburn, while LHP
Lachlan Lloyd (0-2, 14.1 IP, 2.51 ERA) is tasked with continuing Cobourg’s improved fortunes.
Bottom of the 2nd:
Ross Shewman gets a hold of a 1-1 cutter and blasts it to deep centerfield. CF Raymond Williams sprints after it, but it soars way over him, 436 ft. into the stands for a two-out
solo home run.

Bottom of the 4th:
Adrian Flynn leads off with a broken bat tapper to the left side. 3B Noah Palmer gloves it and fires it to first, but Flynn is ruled safe in an extremely close call. Jay Durhan then reaches on a walk as Flynn moves up to second. After Robert Kersey flies out to RF Nathan Ashman, Dwayne Vick hits a hard grounder down the third base line and into the corner for a base hit. Flynn and Durham both come home as Vick pulls up into second for an RBI double.

Top of the 5th:
With two out, the Redlegs get their first hit of the game when Noah Palmer jumps on a 2-2 fastball and sends it out toward left. LF Ross Shewman runs back to the wall and leaps but its over his head as it falls 368 ft. into the stands for a
solo home run.
Cobourg 1 – Sherburn 3
Top of the 6th:
Jesús Chapa gets two quick outs before surrendering a full-count walk to Nihopalaoa Neho. Harry Doxey then sends a rocket into the gap in right centerfield. CF Leon Albrecht races back but cannot get to it in time as the ball caroms off the wall. Neho rounds third and scores easily as Doxey pulls up into second.
Raymond Williams then hits a liner into right centerfield that falls in for a base hit. Doxey moves up to third then breaks for home. The throw home is not in time as Williams moves up to second on a game-tying RBI single.
Douglas Jones then punches the first pitch back up the middle and into centerfield for a base hit. Williams takes third then races home. Albrecht’s throw home is not in time as Cobourg takes the lead.
Cobourg 4 – Sherburn 3
Top of the 9th:
Yoshiake Ikeda leads off and bangs a 1-2 changeup into shallow leftfield for a base hit. After Noah Palmer pops out to Jesús Chapa on a failed sac bunt, Chapa is removed from the game in favour of RHP Ramón Ortíz.
Chia-liang Fang then lays down a sac bunt in front of the plate. C Robert Kersey throws him out as Ikeda takes second. PH Harrison Covey works the count full then lofts a soft liner into centerfield. CF Leon Albrecht plays it safe and takes it on a hop. Ikeda takes third then heads home. Albrectht sends it home on a strong throw but it’s just off the mark as Ikeda slides in safely with the insurance run.
Cobourg 5 – Sherburn 3
Bottom of the 9th:
RHP Lewis Sheard takes the mound to try and polish off the Tigers. Vic Lewis leads off and sends the second pitch out toward leftfield as Nihopalaoa Neho backpaddles and reels it in. PH Quincy Woolescroft skies one out to shallow rightfield. Randy Spivey comes in and snags it. Leon Albrecht then sends a 1-1 slider towering toward the gap in deep right center. CF Raymond Williams is in hot pursuit, but it lands 408 ft. into the stands for a
solo home run, as the Tiger get to within one.
Carlos Cuevas jumps on the first pitch and lines one between third and short. But SS Douglas Jones reaches out and makes the catch to end the game. The Redlegs hold on to win their second in a row and send the Series back to Cobourg.

April 18 – Game 6
The United Cup returns to Cobourg with the Redlegs enjoying renewed life in the Series, after hanging on to win their second consecutive game. It’s a perfect day for baseball, as warm, clear skies set the stage at Radcliffe Field.
No. 3 starter, RHP
Albert Johnson (0-2, 18.0 IP, 6.00 ERA), looks to keep the ball rolling Cobourg’s way. Sherburn tasks their No. 3 starter, RHP
Ben Buschlen (0-0, 6.2 IP, 0.00 ERA) to try and close things out once again.
Bottom of the 1st:
Harry Doxey works the count full then lines a fastball into left center for a one-out base hit. Raymond Williams then bangs a grounder up the middle and into centerfield for a base hit as Doxey takes second. Douglas Jones lines one that gets through into leftfield. LF Ross Shewman runs in to scoop it up. Doxey takes third then bolts for home. Shewman whips it home, but it sails beyond C Robert Kersey’s reach. Doxey scores as Williams takes third and Jones hustles to second on the throwing error.
Yoshiake Ikeda grounds one to the left side. 3B Adrian Flynn fields it and fires to first to throw out Ikeda as Williams scores Cobourg’s second run.
Sherburn 0 – Cobourg 2
Bottom of the 2nd:
Chia-liang Fang leads off and walks on four-straight pitches. Nathan Ashman sends a little blooper down the line into short rightfield for a base hit as Fang takes second. After Albert Johnson strikes out swinging, Nihopalaoa Neho lashes a 0-1 fastball to center, loading the bases. Harry Doxey works the count full once again then drives a hard shot through the box and into centerfield. Fang scores as Ashman hits third and Neho takes second. Ashman is given the windmill as CF Leon Albrecht sends it home. Ashman slides in safely as Neho hustles to third and Doxey takes second on a 2-run single.
Raymond Williams then rips a liner to right for a base hit. Neho scores as Doxey takes third. Doxey is sent home and slides in safely as RF Carlos Cuevas’ throw is off target. Williams adds to the Redlegs’ lead with 2-run single.

Bottom of the 4th:
After Albert Johnson flies out to 2B Vic Lewis to start the inning, Buschlen hits Nihopalaoa Neho. That ends Buschlen’s day as LHP Shane Gledhill takes over.
But Harry Doxey launches an 0-1 fastball out toward deep left center that bangs off the wall. CF Leon Albrecht chases it down as Neho hustles to third and Doxey pulls into second with a standup double. Raymond Williams then rips a hard liner through the right side hole past a diving 2B Vic Lewis. Neho scores as Doxey chugs to third then breaks for home as well. RF Carlos Cuevas whips the long throw home. Doxey slides but C Robert Kersey gets the relay and tags him out. Williams takes second on the RBI single.
Douglas Jones then steps in and jumps all over a 2-2 fastball that sails out toward deep leftfield. LF Ross Shewman races back and leaps but it just clears the wall as it sails 366 ft. into the raucous stands for
2-run home run.

Bottom of the 7th:
Douglas Jones does it again as he sends a 1-2 fastball soaring to the opposite field in right. RF Carlos Cuevas charges after it, but it sails over his outreached glove 369 ft. into the stands for a lead-off
solo dinger.
Yoshiake Ikeda sends a line drive into center for a base hit. Noah Palmer then draws a walk as Ikeda takes second. Chia-ling Fang sends a blooper into no-man’s land in shallow centerfield for a base hit that loads the bases. After Nathan Ashman strikes out swinging, Albert Johnson works the count full before drawing walk, forcing in Ikeda.
Sherburn 0 – Cobourg 11
Top of the 9th:
Albert Johnson takes the mound in the 9th looking to finish what he started. But Adrian Flynn drills a 0-2 forkball past both the pitcher and shortstop and into centerfield for a lead-off base hit. Dwayne Vick smashes one to the right side. 2B Chiang-liang Fang snares it and fires it to SS Douglas Jones at second to throw out Flynn. Jones then relays it to first to complete the double play.
PH Brendan Blowers drills one back up the middle and into centerfield for base hit. But Vic Lewis strikes out looking to end the game. Johnson pitches a complete game shut out as Cobourg demolishes Sherburn to even up the Series and force a winner-take-all Game 7.

April 19 – Game 7
For the second season in a row and the ninth time overall, the United Cup goes a full seven games to settle baseball supremacy in Braeland. Cobourg tied up the Series in convincing fashion in Game 6, thumping the Tigers, 11-0. The Redlegs have come all the way back from an 0-3 deficit to force a Game 7 and will try to become the first team in United League’s history to win four straight games after losing the first three to win the United Cup. The country has practically grounded to a halt as a nation-wide audience and a packed house under partly cloudy skies are tuning in to possibly witness history.
Cobourg turns to their ace, LHP
Bill Budd (2-0, 22.0 IP, 3.27 ERA) to lead the charge. Sherburn calls upon their No. 2 starter, RHP
Kieran Bunce (1-0, 17.2 IP, 5.09 ERA) to try and get the Tigers back into the win column just one more time.
Top of the 3rd:
Sherburn strikes first as Adrian Flynn jumps on a 0-1 knuckle curve and belts it hard to right. RF Nathan Ashman hustles back to the warning track but it’s way over his head as it lands 380 ft. into the bleachers for a one-out
solo home run.

Noah Palmer leads off and bloops one out toward shallow left center that LF Ross Shewman can’t get to in time. Palmer reaches safely on Cobourg’s second hit of the game. Palmer then takes off just as Chia-liang Fang squares to bunt. Fang hits it toward third base. Adrain Flynn moves in and throws out Fang at first as Palmer takes second. PH Harrison Covey then drills the first pitch to deep centerfield. CF Leon Albrecht lunges but it gets past his glove and bangs off the wall. Palmer comes home with the tying run as Covey slides in safely with an RBI double.

Bottom of the 6th:
Harry Doxey leads off and sends a little chopper toward third. Adrian Flynn short hops it and gets Doxey at first. Raymond Williams steps in and slams an 0-2 fastball down the line to deep rightfield. It just stays fair as it nicks the foul pole for a
solo home run, landing 346 ft. into the bullpen as Cobourg takes the lead.
Sherburn 1 – Cobourg 2
Top of the 9th:
Bill Budd takes the hill looking to close things out as Cobourg hangs on to a one-run lead. PH Freddie Instone sends a slow roller down to third. 3B Noah Palmer gloves it and cuts down Instone at first. Vick jumps on the first pitch and sends a hard grounder down the third base line as well. Palmer snares it and throws out Vick for the second out. Ross Shewman then draws a walk, putting the tying run on base. But Vic Lewis strikes out swinging on three pitches to end the game and Series. Cobourg completes the historic comeback to win their first
United Cup!
