Cards news: July 30 -- OF Tony Chavez acquired from Miami in four player deal

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired outfielder Tony Chavez from the Miami Marlins in exchange for catcher R.J. Long, right-handed pitchers John Lakin and Aaron Broaddus.
Chavez, who made his major-league debut this season, has played in 87 games/76 starts for Miami this season hitting .241 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs.
A 15th-round pick in the 2029 MLB draft, he has 801 games/769 starts of professional baseball experience during which he has hit .315 with 101 home runs and 484 RBIs.
The Cardinals acquired Long in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on May 5.
He was immediately called up for his major league debut, and despite some success at the plate. The team really struggled when he was on the field going 4-17 in games in which he played before being sent down.
Recalled on July 29, he was given a start against Baltimore and proceeded to direct a game which featured 10 walks, one wild pitch and a passed ball in an 18-7 loss.
Evidently, he doesn't gel with the pitching staff. Maybe he will do better elsewhere.
Lakin, 27, made his MLB debut in that loss to the Orioles.
He lasted one inning, allowing seven earned runs on five hits with four walks.
He hadn't been much better at AAA Memphis this season, going 0-5 with six saves in 27 games with an 8.14 ERA.
Broaddus, a 22-year-old right-hander, has pitched in Florida State Rookie League this season, going 1-1 with four saves and a 4.80 ERA in 16 games.
