Cards news: July 12 -- Shoulder injury will end season for RHP Jhoan Duran
The 2035 season has been a struggle for right-handed reliever Jhoan Duran and now the St. Louis Cardinals could know why.
The 37-year-old was diagnosed with a torn UCL after pitching in their 2-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on July 10.
It is expected to be a year before he is able to pitch again.
Duran will be a free agent at season's end, so his time with the Cardinals is probably over.
In his second season with St. Louis, Duran has pitched in 30 games this season going 2-3 with six saves, a 4.45 ERA and five blown saves.
That came after a 2034 season where he pitched in 60 games and went 4-8 with eight saves and a 2.78 ERA.
Getting called back to the majors is 26-year-old right-hander Dan Pohl, who has been pitching at AAA Memphis.
Pohl has made 11 appearances for the Redbirds and gone 1-1 with three saves and a 1.10 ERA.
He struggled in an earlier callup to the majors, pitching in 16 games and going 1-0 with a 6.16 ERA.
