Cards news: June 16 -- RHP Christian Billet acquired from Detroit for 2B Kayson Cunningham
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Christian Billet from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for second baseman Kayson Cunningham.
Looking to improve the right-side of their bullpen, the Cardinals bring in the 26-year-old Billet, who in 32 games this season has gone 2-2 with two saves and a 1.91 ERA.
Billet broke into the majors in 2032 with the Tigers and has pitched in 125 games, going 10-6 with eight saves and a 3.35 ERA.
St. Louis acquired the 28-year-old Cunningham in a June 24 trade with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He initially played well, hitting .306 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in his time with the Cardinals in 2033.
A year later, that dropped to .272 with five home runs and 54 RBIs in 125 games/123 starts.
This season, with free agency on the horizon, he has tumbled to .216 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 61 games/58 starts.
