79/80 Season The reign is over! We again agin drop poionts and win the league by 'only' 15 points, but have a lot more closer games. Only the fact that we have the four new 'wha' teams who we regularaly put 11/12 goals past keeps our goal tally for the season at 500. However, we lose 2 games out of four to Gretzky's Detroit, and we have 4 other stackedf teams in Minnesota, STL, LAK and Buffalo. Vancouver also put 11 past us in a crazy 11-8 game. NY Islanders also up there with Bossy. These teams all hit 99 points or more.

Goalscoring with the 4 wha teams goes bonkers, with evryone filling their boots against them, which means we have 30+ 100 point scorers and 20 odd 50 goalscorers. Gretzky hits 200 with 93 goals and 128 assists, leads both cateogires. Guy LaFleur second with 173 points with Cournoyer 171.

Into the playoffs, and we beat Marcel Dionne's Philadelphia by 1 goal in all three games, then lose the first game to STL, but then rout them 4 games in a row.

The other superpowers are all there, Minnesota beat buffalo, Detroit needed 7 over Bobby Orr boston, in a clash of Gretzky vs Orr! and Detroit then roll over Minnesota in 5 to reach the Stanley Cup.

LA had beaten Van in 6 and absolutley hammer us 8-3 at MSG in game 1, and then put us in a huge hole with a 5-3 win in game 2! We come back with a 6-5 win in LA for game 3, but in game 4 we go down to a pp goal midway int he third period to lose 3-2. Game 5 at MSG, not even close, 4-0 to the kings with 8 to go, we get a consolation, but we are out in 5! We had won the previous 11!

Gretzky vs LaFleur and Perreault in the Stanley Cup final, and its the KINGS who win in 6, after being 3-2 up. Gretzky got 13 points in the final for 37 overall, but LaFleur the MVP with 13 as well, but an amazing 47 in the playoffs including 7 in one game. Gretzky gets Hartm LaFleur Conn Smythe. Roll on off season, where i have a lot of work to do re our ageing core.
