MLB news: Oct. 2 -- Phillies capture NL East Division flag
Despite dropping their regular-season finale 9-6 to the Washington Nationals, the Philadelphia Phillies still emerged with the top spot in the National League East Division.
The Phillies finished the season 82-80, just one game ahead of the second-place Atlanta Braves.
Philadelphia finished well behind the Colorado Rockies for overall home-field advantage in the NL playoffs. The Rockies wrapped up their regular season at 90-72.
The postseason berth is the first for the Phillies since 2032, and it is their first division crown since 2024.
Philadelphia last reached the World Series in 2022, losing to the Houston Astros.
It hasn't won a World Series since 2008, and it prevailed over the Tampa Bay Rays.
