July 6-8, 2035: at Milwaukee (3)
Game 1: 5-6 L (10). LP-Whitehead (0-5). Starter-Jimenez (6 5 2 2 3 6). HR-K.White 2 (28). Before the bullpen blew this one it was shaping up to be one of the Rays' weirder wins as they only had two hits but were up 5-2 thanks to a pair of White homers which had walks ahead of them. Alas Luis Gonzalez gave up 3 runs in the 8th to let Milwaukee tie, and Whitehead served up a homer to the first man he faced to let the Brewers walk it off in the 10th.
Game 2: 3-5 L. LP-Vargas (6-6, 4.1 8 5 2 0 7). A key Ransom error in the first led to 3 unearned runs and it was the difference in another loss to Milwaukee.
Game 3: 15-6 W. WP-Salazar (2-0). Starter-Buckman (3.2 8 3 3 2 0). HR-Gurrola (16), Castro (12). The Rays salvaged the finale behind a career game from Hardy, who was 4-5 with a personal best 7 RBI. He doubled twice including a bases-clearer and had a pair of 2-run singles in a game that saw the Rays bat around twice including a decisive 7-run 3rd inning. Gurrola was 3-5 with a 3-run homer and Castro homered and drove in 4.
Team record: 56-34. Boston gained a game to pull within 6 back. Next up: the All-Star break after which we resume action on the Thursday with 4 games at home against Baltimore. We'll also have the Amateur Draft.
