Vim! League Updates
The 2317 offseason is still in full swing as we approach the year of 2318. We here on the Island have been excited to see the stadium in Far Harbor as it makes its progress toward a full-fledged CBO field. For now, we know we have two more seasons of the Vim! League, and they will be the best two seasons ever!
For me, your humble wordsmith of the fogs, Jimmy Gresham, I have been sent a task and a promise. First, the promise. As the representative of the Vim! League here at the Vim! View, I will be taking my talents to the CBO in 2320 to be the Island's CBO correspondent, covering everything of our future CBO team. I will also be the person to run reports for the four minor leagues of the CBO--the NEBL, the MML, the BMU, and the GBRL--for games played on the Island. Seven of the eight ViM! League teams will be in the GBRL, and there are possibilities for teams in the other three minor leagues to be stationed here in the future or play some of their games here.
That promise also came with CBO Commissioner Jimmy (great name!) LaRue sending to me what he calls a Hall of Fame ballot guide. In addition, I have been tasked with compiling a list of the "5 Greats of the Vim! League" in which I will determine which players will join the coming CBO Hall of Fame. For now, I know I will get to vote in the CBO's HOF selections, and I get to release the five best players in Vim! League history. I am making my initial list below in this thread.
So, who are those players on the all-time greats list. Well, I have a lot to think about. First off, what are my standards for "great" in the Vim! League? First, I wanted to look at our top awards winners and who might have won multiple awards.
Vim! MVP Multiple Awards:
Ryan Morris, Dalton Farm - 2 (2305, 2307)
Toppie Gunn, Dalton Farm - 5 (2306, 2308, 2310, 2315, 2316)
Vim! Top Arm Multiple Awards:
Jason Woods, Echo Lake - 5 (2303(T), 2307, 2309, 2310, 2311)
Phil Cecil, Dalton Farm - 2 (2306, 2315)
OK. That gives a baseline of four players to look at and pushes Gunn and Woods toward the top of the list. Five awards? Probably in the Top 5 of all time!
Looking at the all-time leaderboards, there are several appearances by Gunn and Chris Knickerbocker of Echo Lake. Woods mostly dominates the pitchers' leaderboard.
Well, I do have work to pick exactly five. I think that Gunn and Woods are no-doubters. Morris and Cecil may have some advantages, and Knickerbocker is one of the all-time great hitters. My list will begin with those five and change as I look more closely at statistics and who is actually the best five players in the Vim! League. While I do want to name those players, I will also consider if there is anyone who can move themselves into the Top 5 in the last two seasons of the Vim! League.
