The only nice thing about "A" range at 3B is that it'll cut off more possible doubles hit down the line and turn them into outs whereas if your SS can't get to a ball because of his poor range it's only a single.

But nonetheless I agree that in this case I'd probably put Player A at SS and Player B at 3B.
