Ichiro Suzuki Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame
Cooperstown, NY — Ichiro Suzuki, one of baseball’s most iconic hitters, has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Tuesday. Suzuki received 77.8% of the vote in his first appearance on the ballot. This was a number that was far below expectations for Suzuki, and a surprise that he was the sole player to meet the threshold requirements.
Suzuki makes history as the first Japanese-born player elected to Cooperstown, capping a remarkable career that spanned 19 Major League seasons with the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Miami Marlins. Known for his extraordinary bat-to-ball skills, Suzuki amassed 3,089 MLB hits and brought his combined professional total to 4,367 hits.
