Signed, Sealed, and Delivered: New York Rivals Complete Blockbuster Deal

In a rare cross-town transaction, the New York Mets and the New York Yankees finalized a trade on Monday that sends veteran left fielder Brandon Nimmo to the Bronx in exchange for 25-year-old left fielder Oswaldo Cabrera and 23-year-old minor league prospect Spencer Jones.

For the Mets, the return brings both versatility and upside. Cabrera (.294/.376/.564 in 558 PA; 3.5 WAR in 2024 AAA) has already logged major league experience and offers defensive flexibility, while Jones (#71 ranked MLB prospect) is regarded as a high-ceiling player who adds long-term depth to the organization’s outfield pipeline. The Yankees, meanwhile, add an established bat and proven on-base presence in Nimmo who departs Queens after several productive seasons in which he posted a career .267 batting average, along with 101 home runs and 321 RBI.
