Oakland Sends Beyers to Houston

Done deal! The Oakland Commodores have agreed to send 22-year old minor league 2B Josh Beyers to the Houston Legion for 31-year old LHP James McAllaster. The trade, rumored for days, was completed in the wee hours this morning.

To date McAllaster has 14 saves with a 2-1 season record and a 1.95 ERA. He also has made 32 relief appearances, thrown 37 innings and struck out 51.

Oakland - New Orleans Trade: Sasso For Wilkinson

The Oakland Commodores have released a statement confirming the trade of 24-year old minor league RHP Kevin Bevin and 26-year old LHP Steve Sasso to the New Orleans Slammers for 30-year old LHP Travis Patefield and 32-year old RHP Andy Wilkinson. The deal was finalized today.

New Orleans will retain a portion of Wilkinson's remaining contract.

So far this year, Sasso has a 2-4 record with a 5.28 ERA.

Wilkinson has worked 38.1 innings in 37 relief appearances thus far this season and picked up 17 saves. He has dished out 53 strikeouts and walked 17 with a 4-3 mark and a 3.29 ERA.

This should be the last of our moves to improve our pitching overall. McAllaster had a surprisingly low asking price while being on the trade block, showing that the last place Legion are looking to sell. He will slot into our bullpen replacing Paul Gregory, who will be DFA’d and more than likely released, as that experiment did not pan out as expected. Beyers is a first baseman whose only above average potential skill is his contact, only at a 55.

The trade with New Orleans improves both the rotation and bullpen. Patefield is a captain in the clubhouse and has been around league average this year, and replaces Sasso who was starting to struggle. Wilkinson is a good rental reliever for this year and will replace Bettis, who has been returned to the Ironclads as he was a rule 5 pick. Bevin was starting to struggle in AAA and seemed to be never good enough for the bigs, but maybe too good for AAA. With all these moves, we still will not be designating a closer yet. Ressler is having a good July and I would like him to be able to get that role back this year.
