MLB news: Sept. 18 -- Tigers are first team to clinch postseason berth
With a 7-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Detroit Tigers became the first team to sew up a trip to the playoffs in 2032.
At 94-55, the Tigers own the best record in baseball by five games, who happen to sit in second place behind Detroit in the American League Central Division.
The best record in the National League belongs to the New York Mets, who top the NL East Division with an 88-60 mark.
It will be the fifth straight trip to the playoffs for the Tigers.
Detroit last reached the World Series in 2009 when it fell to the Colorado Rockies.
The Tigers last World Series title came in 1984, when they defeated the San Diego Padres.
