Caminero Claims AL Rookie of the Year Honors
Junior Caminero’s breakout season with the Tampa Bay Rays has earned him one of baseball’s most prestigious individual awards. Caminero was named the American League Rookie of the Year after a sensational 2024 campaign that firmly established the 21-year-old third baseman as one of the game’s rising stars.
In his first full major league season, Caminero combined power, consistency and run production to stand out in a crowded rookie field. The Rays newcomer finished the year with a .280/.313/.524 slashline, collecting 29 doubles, two triples, and 30 home runs, while driving in 98 runs, crossing the plate 72 times, and generating 3.5 WAR; providing Tampa Bay with a steady presence in the middle of the lineup throughout the season.
Caminero’s performance separated him from a strong group of finalists. Jackson Holliday (.281/.363/.416; 4.5 WAR) of the Baltimore Orioles placed second in the voting after an impressive rookie season of his own, while Jasson Dominguez (.260/.340/.447; 3.1 WAR) of the New York Yankees finished third.
