Yes, High Gold is getting to be more like Low-Low Diamond right now. Very tough to compete without a decent number of PT Elite toppers plus the Usual Suspects (Johnson, Matthewson, etc.) in the pitching rotation. The good news is that the move from Gold to Diamond is not all that extreme right now. If you can succeed there, Low Diamond won't be a shock to the system.
Where are you in terms of missions and other acquisitions, and how much do you have to spend? There are some pretty solid pitchers available for around 100K in the shop. 30-50K will get you serviceable arms, or better if you can complete the right single-team PT Elite missions (Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Astros, Dodgers especially). If you're short on game cash, you could consider selling off unproductive assets.
