Update after additional troubleshooting (driver rollback and config reset)
Quick update with everything I have tried since my original post.
1. Driver rollback
I rolled back from NVIDIA Game Ready Driver 591.44 to an older Game Ready driver (15.8180).
Confirmed in both the NVIDIA app and Device Manager that the system is now running driver version 15.8180.
After the rollback, I did a full reboot before testing OOTP again.
2. FaceGen/3D folders and config
From OOTP’s main menu I used Settings → Troubleshooting → Open folder containing customizable data and then went up one level to the root user folder:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 26\
In that folder I confirmed that:
A top‑level facegen folder does exist.
I can create and delete a dummy file inside facegen, so Windows permissions look normal.
ballparks\models\ is present as expected.
From Settings → Troubleshooting → Open folder containing file app.cfg I opened the config folder and:
Renamed app.cfg to app_old.cfg with OOTP closed.
Relaunched OOTP so it would generate a fresh app.cfg from scratch.
In the new app.cfg I can see that Facegen_mode (or equivalent) is set to 1 after I enable it in the UI.
3. Behavior of 3D / OpenGL and FaceGen toggles
Even after the driver rollback and fresh app.cfg:
From the title screen I go to Settings → 3D & FaceGen.
I enable 3D/OpenGL and FaceGen.
I fully quit OOTP and relaunch it.
On every relaunch, both 3D/OpenGL and FaceGen are back to Disabled before I even enter a league.
In other words, the game appears to be failing its internal 3D/FaceGen initialization check at startup and is forcibly turning those settings off, ignoring the values I set in the UI and the fact that Facegen_mode is 1 in app.cfg.
4. Current status
2D modes still work perfectly.
Before the rollback, 3D games would show the interface but never render the field/stadium and then crash to desktop.
After rolling back to driver 15.8180 and resetting the config, the game now simply refuses to keep 3D/OpenGL and FaceGen enabled; they are auto‑disabled on every launch, so I can’t even get into a 3D game now.
Debug/logging is enabled, but I still do not get ootp_trace.txt or crash.txt in the user or config folders.
5. What I’m hoping you can provide
Given all of the above, it seems like my system is now in the “FaceGen & 3D models keep being disabled (Steam version)” bucket where the startup check fails and the app forcibly disables 3D/FaceGen regardless of the UI toggles.
Could you please:
Confirm whether this pattern (3D crash, then persistent auto‑disabling of 3D/OpenGL and FaceGen on launch, despite a valid facegen folder and fresh app.cfg) matches a known issue for OOTP 26 – Version 26.8 build 82 (64‑bit) Steam edition (Windows).
Provide one of the following, if possible:
A specific config/app.cfg setting (for example a no3d or similar flag) that I can adjust manually so the game will attempt a “safer” 3D/FaceGen initialization path on this system; or
A beta / test / hotfix build that includes additional logging or a fix for this 3D/FaceGen initialization failure; or
Any other way to force creation of a meaningful trace/crash log on my setup that you would like me to generate and attach.
I’m happy to post my full app.cfg (with username path redacted) or any other file you need. Thanks very much for taking a look—2D is great, but 3D + FaceGen have become unusable despite the driver rollback and all of the steps above.
