2011 Draft update
By the week of the 12th, all our picks except one had signed with little to no back and forth. 3rd-rounder Dan Williams has not agreed to terms yet. One might argue that, for the most part, we assigned our top picks a level below where others might have started them. Given they are all HS aged, success in the minors is never a bad thing, regardless of the level. I prefer a month or two of dominance and over-matching rather than struggles. I don't want struggles until AA at the earliest. Mike Johnson goes to Nashville, along with Josh Dufault. We decided to stick 4 3.5-star or better pitchers in Nashville as well. I love the thought of internal competition that cannot help but rear its head at that age. So Arroyo, Barbour, Fay and Velazquez all start together. SS Enrique Garza also begins at Nashville while Derek Dames is sent to rookie league Minneapolis. Catcher Troy Zehnder will start at class A Albuquerque and jump right into their season. Short Season and Rookie league won't kick off for about another month.
At weeks end Zehnder is hitting .357 with a HR and 7 RBI's through 7 games for Albuquerque
