Tucson Scorpions

2000 Season
Pre-season
I've taken charge of the Tucson Scorpions of the American Baseball League. The leagues first decade has just finished.

Here is the league alignment. Tucson entered the league with New Orleans after the original 1990 season.

The Jacksonville Tropic were originally the Utah Mammoth but relocated in 1996. I'll be bringing the Mammoth back as an expansion franchise at some point as I love the name!
Here is a brief synopsis of the league's awards. Take a gander at one Tyler Higginbotham. That's right, 5 straight MVPs!

In case you're wondering he rejected the Aces qualifying offer, became a free agent and signed a then record 4 year 22.6m dollar deal with the New York Knights. He would go on to win 4 more MVPs in the 4 years of that deal.

3 Player of the month awards, 5 MVPs, 1 Gold Glove, 6 Silver Sluggers, a post season MVP award and 7 all-star selections. His career is winding down in Philadelphia now but I am ok saying he's likely the 1st member of the ABL HOF.
Did I mention he was the 1st overall pick in the original ABL draft?
Here's a peek at the season/career leaders offensively and defensively.

The Scorpions are one of two franchises that has never made the post-season (LA is the other).

They are coming off a strong '99 season. I've made a ton of deals and I'll try to cover the roster composition and organization setup prior to starting (but I do want to start playing)!.
As I did before, I will play every single game, defense only. I like to manage the staff and pitching but want the game engine to handle the offense. I am in GM mode with “unable to be fired” for now. All my minor leagues are run by me, for now.
I did nothing to the personnel in the big leagues as I felt like I wanted to let the game play out and then I will address the gaps where I think they exist, same with the minor league coaches.

I do have the games #1 prospect and the league's top-rated farm system.

Pat was the #1 overall pick in last years draft out of Columbus College (JUCO).

If you know me, you know I am all about pitching, and as such, I spent the winter wheeling and dealing for young arms and, most importantly, draft picks.
In this year's draft, I've managed to acquire 3 1st round picks (17, 19, and 26) as well as the following:
2nd Round 40 and 42
3rd Round 69
Those picks were acquired through trades of talent and draft picks. I have no 4th-, 5th-, or 6th-round selections.
