Maybe off topic, but I recently had a game from 1911 in which Smokey Joe Wood started for Boston, despite an injury note that he had a "bruised shoulder". He allowed eleven runs on eleven hits and was finally pulled in the second inning. The injury was listed as "DTD", and I gather that in the land of the AI Manager this means send him out there and see what happens. I suppose that makes sense, given the durability and stamina of SP in the deadball era. But shouldn't the AI Manager see the injury report as a red flag, maybe skip over him in the rotation? The "bruise" suggested something like being hit by a line drive, rather than arm trouble. I guess the manager thought he could pitch through it. Nope. And I was playing with the Baltimore Orioles (formerly the St. Lous Browns), one of the worst teams in history.

To circle back, I agree that short-term injuries should be more common (even in 1911), and adding the thought that the AI Manager ought to be more realistic about resting a guy who is hurting.
