You should read the SABR biography for Moonlight Graham (free access online). He showed real talent in the minor leagues, but baseball conflicted with his medical studies, and that held him back. He seems to have had the talent to play in the major leagues. Tremendous speed - probably the source of the "Moonlight" (e.g. "Flash") nickname, rather than "moonlighting" as a doctor during the season.
It would be a lot of work, and probably beyond my capabilities, but, if you could build the high minor leagues from 1900-1905 or so, and create a player based on his stats, he would have a decent chance of being a very good major league player. Still, you wouldn't want to derail his amazing medical career. "Now, if I never could have practiced medicine, that would have been a tragedy".
