Is the cleanup demand outdated?

I am roster building for my 2031 edition of the St. Louis Cardinals.
As I looked back at my players, and I have noticed this quite some time but never decided to bring it up, there a couple of them whose expectation is to be the team's cleanup hitter.
In today's game, isn't that an outdated concept.
Most team's, including the two in this year's World Series, are batting their best hitter first (Ohtani) or second (Vladdy Jr.).
Starting lineup, starting rotation on the major league roster, I can see as an expectation.
But cleanup hitter for a player who considers himself a premier hitter.
This probably should no longer be happening in the OOTP world.
