With just 5 games remaining in the 1973 season, only one playoff spot remains open. Cedar Rapids and Louisville have clinched the division titles. St. Paul has locked down wild card number 1. The Birmingham Baron's magic number for the 2nd wild card is down to 2.

Buck Freeman has 47 home runs to lead the league. Mark McGwire now has 30 home runs.

Fred Toney and Julio Urias have 20 wins tops in that category

Hilton Smith went down with an injury in September. He's had a rather blah 1973 season and still lacks 3 wins to reach 200 career wins.

Cecil Fielder has 21 home runs in his rookie season.

Tris Speaker's average has fallen to .388 on the season. Looks like another year will pass without a .400 hitter. George Sisler has been on fire, raising his average to .367. Bill Madlock is third in the batting race with a .340+ average.
