April 4-5, 2040: at Boston (2)
The Rays are off to a rough start in 2040, being swept by the Red Sox in the two-game set while being shut out for the second time in three games and scoring only two runs in the two games in total. Meanwhile old friend Danny Arroyave already has 3 homers for Milwaukee including a 2-HR, 7-RBI game.
Boston shellacked Tampa Bay 7-0 in the opener as the Rays were held to six hits with three coming off the bat of Jeremy Begley. Sergio Espinoza (0-1) got his whiffs but not much else going 5.2 8 6 6 0 6.
Although they were held to only four hits in the second game the Rays did draw 7 walks (including 3 by walk monger Melvin Olvera) but could only score via a pair of solo homers and lost 4-2 to the Red Sox. Leo Gutierrez (0-1) had one bad stretch in the third where he gave up 3 runs and finished 5 7 3 3 1 8. The solo shots came courtesy of Jeremy Begley (the one guy holding up his end so far) and Tony Fisher, the first homer of 2040 for each.
Team record: 1-3. They'll try to get right as they open the home portion of their schedule with 3 against Toronto.
