So Garrett Crochet threw his 100th pitch retiring the last Yankee in the bottom of the seventh. No way he pitches the eighth, correct? Not if he was being managed by Aaron Boone, he wouldn’t.
But Crochet’s manager is Alex Cora. Cora has more balls and brains than Boone, by far. Crochet continues into the eighth inning because he is dominating.
See, for Boone, he can hide behind that 100-pitch limit. In his mind, he is supposed to take Fried out after 100 pitches. He did his job according to the book. Luke Weaver did not.
If, on the other hand, he leaves Fried in and Fried suddenly tires, then it’s Boone’s fault. The guy is boneheaded and gutless.
