October 8-9, 2039: ALDS Game 1 & NLDS Games 1-2

That's why they call it an Achilles heel...

Despite a fine season in which they won the division fairly comfortably, the Rays had persistent problems late in games with the bullpen and it showed at the worst time with Walt Kelly blowing a 5-4 lead in the 9th of the ALDS opener as the Rays fell 6-5 to San Antonio. Kelly gave up a leadoff double followed by a homer and in an instant a 1-0 advantage in a best-of-5 series became an 0-1 deficit. They did get a 2-out double from Danny Rodriguez followed by a walk to Danny Rivera to put the winning run on base but Justin Blackwell fanned to end it. The Alamos were the top offensive team in the AL (and 2nd in MLB) and showed it today, getting 4 runs off ace Danny Morales and then scoring again when they needed to. Ruben Cerrillo will take the mount for what is suddenly a critical Game 2.
