The Giants have the 31st pick of the 2057 draft and select the best college player available to them. That is LF Joe Schramm out of Dallas Baptist. An average to slightly below average glove and average speed are an inauspicious combination but his potential above average contact and power, along with plus gap and eye that are already major league ready make Schramm an interesting prospect. He will start in High-A and could even earn a promotion to AA before the end of the season.
The rest of the Giants bonus pool pick come from high school, with a mix of pitchers and position players, all with significant upside.
Round 2, Pick 29 - SP Mike Wright, age 17 out of high school
Round 3, Pick 29 - CF Jimmy Taylor, age 18 out of high school
Round 4, Pick 27 - 2B Steve Allis, age 18 out of high school
Round 5, Pick 28 - SP Kevin Glenn, age 19 out of high school
In addition to their first five picks, the Giants use their strong financial position to draft two further players looking for bonuses and happily bay the sub million dollar asks for each:
Round 6, Pick 28 - CF Josh Lance, age 21 out of college (West Virginia University; Morgantown, WV)
Round 7, Pick 28 - C Zach Knowles, age 17 out of high school (Lovejoy; Lovejoy, GA)
Schramm will be joined by sixth round pick Josh Lance and eight round pick Corky Martin in starting in High-A, while 10th round pick Jeremy Moran and 13th round Bobby OBrien will start in A ball. The rest of the class will start in rookie ball next year:
Round 1, Pick 31 - LF Joe Schramm, age 22 out of college (Dallas Baptist University; Dallas, TX)
Round 6, Pick 28 - CF Josh Lance, age 21 out of college (West Virginia University; Morgantown, WV)
Round 8, Pick 28 - 3B Corky Martin, age 22 out of college (William Jewell College; Liberty, MO)
Round 10, Pick 28 - RP Jeremy Moran, age 22 out of college (Longwood University; Farmville, VA)
