I just started a new Standard Game on this patch and simulated forward. For one, I don't see any teams with more than 4 players listed as 1B. Additionally, every single one of those players can play other positions.
This seems like a non-issue to me. I could maybe see the game putting better logic in there to show the position where they are most likely to be used or a different way across the defensive spectrum.
In the attached example there are 4 1B listed, but 2 of them are in the depth charts for other positions.

I would argue the nominal position should be where the player has the most value (either in isolation or in his team context).
Is the same tendency true for LF among the outfield cohort?
Ironically, at least in the past, in historical leagues it seemed like the AI had a tendency to weigh a HITTING ability disproportionately when assigning a primary position (players with very small exposure at SS or C nevertheless being designated as such, etc.).
