It's their league, right? They get to make conditions for employment.
Did you ever look at an NFL contract? I can look at any NFL player contract and spot the exact year their employment is not guaranteed. That's not a lie, they're showing you up front. If I tell you I'll pay you double if the job is great, are you automatically assuming you're getting paid double regardless of the outcome?
BTW, I have a 4 year contract at my job. None of it is guaranteed. It's only guaranteed if they keep us.
