American League Championship Series Game 4:October 15th, 2016
Toronto Blue Jays -
Detroit Tigers @Comerica Park
TOR: SP
Juan Gonzalez(R, 6-1 3.65)
DET: SP
Scott Kazmir(R, 1-0 0.93)
I had a bad feeling about this one before the game. That was before
Castellanos,
Rendon and
Suárez reeled off three straight singles to make it 1-0
Toronto,
Castellanos walked… and then we started to sabotage ourselves as
Sokolow hit
Devin for an interference out… and the inning sizzled out. The second saw our back end of the order go down quickly, meaning two down for
Nick Castellanos… who grounded one to
Rua… who then threw it past
Hosmer for an error.
Kazmir was visibly enraged, and it affected his pitching to
Rendon as he was losing his command… and then
Rendon to a loud double to right field that scored
Nicky. Given a 2-0 lead,
Gonzalez was… struggling, giving up a double in the first, and then walking two and then hitting
Taylor to load em up with one down. This was about the time where
Devin Mesoraco started bailing him out by fooling the umpire, stealing three strikes en route to two strikeouts in long at bats…. That were STRESSFUL.
Finkbeiner made it 3-0 with a solo blast in the third and cashed in for more fun when
Mesoraco waited for him at second in the 5th… RBI-single. That was the end for
Kazmir after 4.2, and
Gonzales followed him after four messy, yet scoreless innings, in line for the W. That lead however, was in danger.
Bringing in
Carlos Bustamente was a costly mistake as bloody
Bautista tattooed him for a 2-run home run, and
Hosmer and
Rua collected their third run on two singles. With the bottom of the order coming up, we brought in
Danny Foxhoven again… and when he left after a single, a walk, a passed ball and a wild pitch, and a fielder’s choice RBI… DET 6 TOR 5.
Trying to give them a new look and hoping to keep things close,
Henderson Alvarez III got his gig and pitched two scoreless to get to the ninth.
Familia seemingly was finally gassed after pitching 2 inning outings two times already. That brings up 7.02 righty
Fernando Rodriguez Jr.… and he got
Mesoraco,
Sokolow and
Finkbeiner in order.
