Cards news: Dec. 18 -- SS Masyn Winn sent to L.A. for LHP Maddux Bruns
It was easy to see this coming, following the Cardinals acquisition of shortstop C.J. Abrams, but shortstop Masyn Winn has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Maddux Bruns.
The 26-year-old Winn had an impressive run in St. Louis.
He broke into the majors late in the 2023 season and claimed the starting shortstop position in 2024's spring training.
He's held it ever since, but a drop in performance at the place raised questions along with an occasional inconsistency defensively.
And when Abrams became available. The Cardinals jumped at it.
In 2028, Winn started 143 games/142 starts and hit .230 with seven home runs and 43 RBIs.
Although, he did have a career high 41 steals.
For his career, Winn was a .241 hitter with 48 home runs and 264 RBIs in 729 games/708 starts.
A first-round pick in the 2021 draft by the Dodgers, Bruns finally made his major-league debut last season.
In seven games, all in relief, he was 1-0 with one save and a 7.56 ERA.
