The new outfield has come out swinging as offseason signing David Rojo put up a 165 wRC+ while rookie Frank Calleja’s 190 wRC+ secured him Rookie of the Month honours after a .333 average to go with 17 R and 17 RBI.
Andy Frederick had a tough month with HRs but the Giants trust he will turn things around and join the rest of the starting rotation who have been impressive in their first few starts. In the bullpen, Greg Hyder has struggled and, with Josh Parker, coming back to fitness, is likely to take a stint in Sacramento.
Transactions & Injuries
The Giants picked up Ernie Mapes off waivers from San Antonio to start the month. Mapes is a plus glove with an average bat and, as such, is a cheaper version of Jesus Castro. Castro was DFA but makes it through Waivers to join Sacramento. Luis Castro did not manage to survive waivers and joins the Blue Jays.
Scouting Director Montero unearths a potential major leaguer in Juan Ballesteros, who heads to the International Complex hoping for a midseason callup to the DSL.
